SITE IS COMPLETED - How do I transfer all these files to the main server...?

Post by seecyd »

So I have my cms folder on the server... and everything is running from that folder... what is the next step?
I've tried transferring the index.php file over to the www folder, but now I don't see anything there... Do I have to transfer all the files and folders out of the cms folder into the www folder???

In other words, how does my www.nameofsite.fr/cms/index.php file become www.nameofsite.fr  ???

helllllp... and I don't want to move anything and get confused after all the work I've done!

Thanks for your help!!

in a nutshell, yes

(I know you're not moving to a new server, but the steps are very similar)

Do I need to PhpmyAdmin back up of the database when I've been working on my server this whole time? confused...

Don't I just need to transfer the files over and then change the path settings in the config.php file???

You'd be mad not to have been backing up your DB anyway, regardless of where it is.

MySQL Administrator is a very nice client-side tool you can use to backup/restore your databases. It has the advantage of you being able to install it on a customer's office server (if they have one) and setup up backup scheduling for them.

Definitely a backup, always necessary, regardless.

Once you've duplicated the site on the remote server, you'll have to make sure you CHMOD the necessary folders (eg., temporary template folder) to allow write permissions
