Session not working

Post by TeXnik »

I just tried to install a new cmsmadesimple (1.5.4b). Immediarely after startingb the install I get the error session not working.
Checking the help function I found:
Session not working
(start) You have session module but not working properly in your system. Perhaps this is due to some restriction of your PHP system, for example session functions are disabled or open basedir enabled. Check your installation and ask your provider for enable.
I checked the settings of irtual server and found that these settings exactly the same as with previous installations, where I had no problems with any installation.

Any idea what can be wrong?

yes, it stopped the installation process immediately.

In the mean time, I got a message from my provider. They recently upgraded to php 5.2.X(?).
open basedir is not defined on their servers, but session.auto_start is off. Now I try to find out how I can enable this via htaccess.

No, in general when session not work you must check for session save path (correct path? writeable folder? ...)

I got the installation workig.
First I enabled htaccess and created a .htaccess file. This causes an 500 error.
I deleted then the .htaccess file and the installation went trough without problems.

By the way, my provider, who also looked into that matter, likes cmsmadesimple and is looking to provide an autoinstaller for the clients.

Hi All,

I think I have had a similiar problem with upgrading from 1.5.4 to 1.6 on my server. I had the following screenshot when I tried to go past the first screen:

Do you think it is related?

My hosting details are:

Type  Debian
MySQL Version 5.0.45
PHP Version  5.2.2

(See screen shot attached)

The screen was as far as I remember the same. I do not know if they are related, as I do not really know what made the error disappear.

Hi Alby,

Sorry I posted this in the wrong section - I will move this to the installation forum.
