0.12beta1 Released!

Post by Ted »

Just posted to the front page of the website.
It's that scary time in a software developer's life when they let a new release out into the wild. Luckily, this one is a beta. With that moniker, I can say stuff like: don't use this on a production system. And, please, don't do it until you've tested it. It's pretty solid, but I know it's not perfect yet.

There are 2 big changes in this release.

The first is the addition of the menu manager module. This is basically a replacement for all of the menu nightmares that we've been going through. It basically allows you to define how the menu output will be defined (if you want), or just use the sample templates that come with the system and emulate the existing menu systems out there.

Secondly, we've moved to adodb lite. This should decrease the amount of memory usage for each loaded page. Also, in conjunction with that, we've done a lot more refiining of memory usage and really closed up some gaps. As a result, CMSMS is faster and less resource intensive. It's a good thing.

There are plenty of other goodies as well. Theme Manager makes importing and exporting templates easy. Better handling of 404 errors. Less "nocache" errors. Better caching strategies. A stronger FCKeditor. And tons more that I forgot to put into the ChangeLog.

Please enjoy, happy testing and thanks!
Remember, it is a beta.  Please be gentle.  And I can't stress about testing it before using it on a production site enough.

Please report any bugs in the tracker or here.

Thanks so much!

Actually, not totally true.  It's distributed with adodb lite.  The option is there for regular adodb if problems turn up.  That gives me an easy way to quickly make a full adodb download and tell people how to set it up without too much pain.

As I have seen there is a part in install procedure for using CMSms with SQLite  ;D ...

Is this feature planed for final release 0.12 or earlier?

I tried it, but was having issues with connections not being closed right.  I will probably take another try at it before 0.12 comes out, but won't guarantee anything.  :)

It still loads slow occasionally.  Generally, it runs perfectly, but sometimes it just hangs for sometimes up to 40 seconds.  You can see the speed report at the top left of the screen for easy reference.

Has anyone else had this problem?

This is Power! Without technical help of accelerators or so, measured with Piratos Powerweb, here in use with Mysql.

Generated in 0.066649 seconds by CMS Made Simple 0.12-beta1 (cached) using 6 SQL queries

I have the first inofficial beta release of this version to test it, and it is great.

OK, I may be going blind but where is the new memory manger module? I've updated my test site to this beta but can't seem to find it anywhere? Am I going mad?

This may be the problem
With konqueror a big warning comes, that this script can damage html and can stop other programs.

But the speed is normal (ca. 0.22 s).

Now posting this at http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... 097.0.html

Testmaster, I'll look into the konqueror warning.  What version do you have?  Konqueror is essentially the same as safari right?  It works perfectly for me in safari.

The scriptactulous script is a very well-tested script.  http://script.aculo.us.  I know ajax is becoming cliche already, but it's a ton of fun to play with this script.

What version do you have
3.4.1  with Linux Kernel 2.6.11, Apache 2.2.0, PHP 5.1.2

Disable the script and see if you have power problems or not . I by myself have no powerproblems seen with your website.
