[done] In need of a custom menu created

Post by doodlebee »

Hello all,

I am looking for someone with experience in with creating custom menus. The site is currently using:

- CMSMS 1.5.1 - currently in a localhost environment
- Cart
- Price Based Shipping
- Product Manager
- Order Manager
- FrontEnd User Management
- Self Registration Module

I have the template already set up.  I'm very new to CMSMS (I'm usually a WordPress designer) - literally.  I just downloaded this sucker and started using it 2 days ago.  I'm having an issue creating a menulist from custom fields.  Basically, I'm setting up a shopping cart for a client (if you couldn't tell  ;) ).  On each product, there is a custom field set up called "Manufacturer", where I put in the manufacturer of each product.  I need to:

- create a navigational list in the sidebar which pulls out and lists the manufacturer names.
- have these manufacturers link to a page that is specific to them (for example, if the manufacturer is "Nabisco", I need the link for "Nabisco" to link to a page that pulls in all "Nabisco" products form all categories.  I do not know if this means I have to actually create a category for "Nabisco" to pull this off.)

For now, this is all I need - although I can see my client wanting said "Nabisco" page to have a submenu where people can categories the products list - but that's not required as of now.

This is similar to how the WordPress "Tag" system works, or if you're familiar with ZenCart, the default "manufacturer's listing sidebox" (except in ZenCart it's a weird box - I usually use a contribution to turn it into an unordered list).

I need someone to do this by the end of the day today, and I will pay $5.  It shouldn't be that hard.

::dies::  Okay, I'm just kidding (sorry, I couldn't resist LOL)

But seriously, I *do* need this in a hurry - i.e. ASAP, but Friday (December 12) at the latest. (Of course, if this isn't *possible* let me know - because I have no idea what I'm doing here, and this could well be something that will take quite a while - but if that's the case, I *do* need to know that I'm asking for "too much" so I can relay this to the client)  I'd like to move on to the other areas of the site and get those working, so that this list is the only thing left I need to worry about.

I'm not worried about styling - I can handle that in the CSS.  I just need a UL list with linked LI items.

If you are interested in this, and you have the time  and experience to take on this job, PLEASE let me know as soon as possible.  I didn't see any "rules" on posting a job request here, but most places I know of don't like you to respond publicly - so I'll say you can reach me by emailing shelly AT foolishvisions DOT com.  Please let me know your fee for pulling this out of your butt in a hurry, and how quickly you can do it :)  (And if you accept PayPal or CC payments, even better, because honestly, I ran out of checks and my re-order hasn't come in yet!)

Thank you, and I hope to hear form someone soon :)

Products doesn't support building a summary of sorted, unique values from a custom field.
Your best bet would be to create a hierarchy level for each manufacturer
i.e:

HP
  Desktops
  Laptops
  Servers
Dell
  Desktops
  Laptops
  Servers
Gateway
  Laptops
  Desktops
Asus
  Sub-Notebooks
  Desktops

And then create a custom hierarchy display, that styles things as you need to
and then create a simple hierarchy display like {Products action=hierarchy hierarchytemplate='mycustomtemplate'}

Thank you very much Calguy.  I'll give that a shot :)  (I'll leave this open - for now - just in case - but if it works I'll come back and close it.)

Thanks again!
