News Module Notification Sent for New Items

I would like to use the News Module for documents, pdfs etc, that visitors to the site can download. It works great and I have had no problems so far. However, I have a request for a feature that I am not sure is compatible with the module. Is it possible to send an email notification to registered users when a new news release (document) has been added to the system via the News Module?

Thanks for the wonderful CMS tool. It really is elegant and easy to use.

You should be able to use an Event to do this, although I'm not sure exactly how it would be done.  I use an Event to email an admin whenever an editor edits a page.
