"IE6 is not supported"

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

"IE6 is not supported"

Post by fredt »

Hi all,

It's been a long time since I last posted a message here... We've been "quite" busy these last months.

I've been very surprised recently to read in the Documentation (Handbook, http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/User_Handbook/Installation/Requirements) that "IE6 is not supported".

Can you (=the Team) please tell me it is just a doc error ? Or why & when the hell this was decided ? As I will soon post (at least to Ted), we have used CMSMS as the frontend for a product which is now used by some very big European corps... and of course IE6 is their standard. Right now we use an old version (which we hacked a bit...) - but we consider moving to a much recent version quite soon : so, lack of IE6 compatability would be a major trouble.

TIA, and still a CMSSM lover,

FredT

Edit : I found in the Doc's history that this change was introduced in this doc's version: http://wiki.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php?title=User_Handbook/Installation/Requirements&oldid=3243

So, does this mean a doc error, or : no more IE6 ? for standard users, or for administration only ?

Thanks in advance for your answers,

Fred

That part of the manual pertains to installation and administration. The front end display of your site should work in any browser, given the proper css.

I updated the requirements page in the handbook and put a link to this post. What you posted, Nullig, makes sence to me. What i like to know though, is this your personal opinion or is this the official opinion, no offence, but i put it in the manual and that must be right, of course.

For what it's worth all users that I maintain on the admin side of things work fine on IE6... on the front side, the "client" side It's all up to you as your the one writing the code...

the admin side of CMSMS may work fine on IE6.... that's great.... it's just not supported.

btw, JeremyBass: Upgrade your 1.3.1 site(s).

I can't... bosses won't ok it... and client won't pay for it... if it's going to get done I'll have to do it on my own... ( they are in dispute... fun stuff...)  ::)

Thanks, guys - so, "it might work, but isn't supported".

I'll try to explain this to my customers (we embedded a QCodo-made application in CMSMS for some intranet app, I guess we now have more than 500.000 internal users through our big customers... and more than 50 admins).

But thanks God some of them use Firefox...

Think about some CMSms promotion in the "Show Off" board. Thx.
