OT To show the Administrator is online!

A couple of sites I have seen have an embedded chat program that lets you live text with , and in one case apparently, have a video session with someone at the site, if the relevant person is online.  I'd like to investigate this, which will means starting from a position of complete ignorance. Is anyone doing this with a CMS site, and if so, what are you using? Many thanks. Andrew
