[Solved] Login has gone pear shaped!!!

Hi All.

Been a long time since I have posted here, but I am at a dilemma.

The site for my church was hacked a while ago and taken down. We got it all back but we cannot access the admin login page/area. It keeps saying there is an access code setting that is wrong.
I've tried changing the CHMOD to various settings on login.php but nothing lets me in, can anyone help please?

We know we are running an old version, but until now everything has been perfect.

We know we are running an old version, but until now everything has been perfect.

See how "hacked" and "perfect" are incompatible. Let me stress two points again :
1)You shoot yourself in the foot by running old known insecure unsupported versions. Don't run anything but the latest official security supported stable release on the wild Internet.
2)When cracked you should recover from proven safe backups to rebuild everything from scratch : the cracked hosting needs to be destroyed and you should use a new one.

You shouldn't need to reset the admin password if your backup is safe. If your restore a broken password what else pollution are your restoring with it ?
