IE text issues but not it Safari

Hi all I am working on a site and the text on most of the pages has weird spacing. I have it set to Verdana and small. In Safarai and Firefox in both Windows and MAC it looks fine. On the other hand in IE 8 and seven it has too much space. I am seeing this using

Anyone can give me an idea on why?
