Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

database

Post by Dacuz »

I've heard some great stuff about CMSMS, so I'm planning on setting up one for the first time. It's also the first time I will use a database. Total noob in that area. That's why I got stuck on step 6: How do I create an empty database? Is this something a common provider provides in? If not, what kind of database is easy to start with, and where do I get it?

I'm aware of the fact that this forum isn't meant for these kinds of questions, but I'd be really thankful if someone could help me with this...

Hi Dacuz,

No problem, we've all been there at one point in time. :D

You need to ask your host if they have support for MySQL (although some other databases also may work, like PostgreSQL). Then they probably have a tool to administer that database (phpMyAdmin is one of the most common) or you could do it directly through cPanel if that is what you use for administering your website.

You should have received username/password to login to either of these two, or perhaps another tool, from your host. If not, ask them if they have support for MySQL and what tool you can use to administer it.

You can read about how to create a database using phpMyAdmin or cPanel if you click here

What is the host that you are using?

Hope this give you some help. Feel free to ask again! :D

My ISP (Vevida.nl) indeed supports MySQL through phpMyAdmin. Lucky me :D I requested a database and received the username and password, so I guess y'all can expect some more questions from me very soon regarding the CMSMS setup.

For now, thanks a lot for the rapid response!
