Friends of the John Rylands website

Post by Russ »

I was asked to produce a new website for the Friends of the John Rylands, which is a charity dedicated to supporting the John Rylands Library in Manchester, UK. It is an amazing library and whilst doing the work I got to look at many images of the incredibly rare books available in their special collections. I've used some on the website which is roughly following thier design brief ;-)

If you're in Manchester - well worth a visit to one of the world's greatest libraries.

Of interest to CMS people is maybe a simple iCal feed from the Calendar module (Events page). It is not perfect yet, no repeating appointments and some other stuff is missing - hence no update here - I will work on it as I get time. However, I produced this web site for free as I support this charity, the library and libraries in general, so don't hold your breath ;-)

Hi Sven, brown is not my favourite colour either, but when you have a design brief you have to stick to it, well at least a bit! Thank you however for your kind comments ;-)

Friendly URL's (www.domain.com/events) is available with CMS made Simple! It is meant to be more readable and memorable by humans and supposed to give a better search engine rating, (although I'm not sure that this is true these days.) In any event it reads better and looks good. You only need to alter you config.php file and your .htaccess file in your web server. Full instructions are in the CMS documentation on and in this forum. Just search for Friendly URL's. Also some modules have then own options for friendly URL's.

I hope this helps?
