Q: Content creation automation and an article breakdown to multiple pages

Post by mrmut »

Hi people,

    I have two specific questions:

1. is it possible, with some module, or something similar - to automate content creation?

The scenario is as follows - I am about to build a site site that needs to have about one hundred pages + sub pages. Every page consists of about same amount of text, and everything is about to be fit in only one template design. Now - it is utterly boring to create one hundred pages by had, especially if you need to do copy/paste all the time, so I am wandering is there a way to do it automatically?

I have all the data in the Excell tables, whom I use to synchronize and update stuff. It would be also nice if that tool would be able to automatically update everything from some spreadsheet.

2. Breaking one long page in multiple sections - like the ones seen at the hardware review sites. Is it possible to do it automatically? - To create one page, and than some tool to break that page in sections defined by some character set?

If not - how something like this can be done most easy.

Thank you a lot!

You can have some default info in every page by adding it to the Site Admin » Page Defaults > Content:...

You may want to do a default install then read all the pages that come with it then backup/export the DB then start pushing all the buttons/links and play with it all making changes in everything till you get a feel for it all works then you can import the DB to start off fresh... ;)

Thank you, on the reply - I use CMSMS to build sites, so I am quite familiar with it.

What I would like is to actually find out is there a way to simply pour contents of some spreadsheet into the database with some module, so that that action will create all those pages, and later to update the corresponding fields?

On 1. : search (with google) for a thread about "wget automation".

Hi Pierre, I did the search, but it seems to me that wget is a tool for retrieving materials from the web.

Maybe I have misunderstood you - can you please explain to me what you had on your mind?

Thanks.
