A New Cataloger Module Image Problem

I'm experiencing a strange related problem, which results in images not being displayed.

I'm running a 2 year old site that has never been moved.

It is running CMSMS 1.0.4 with Cataloger 0.7.

Both of the image upload folders 'catalog' and 'catalog_src' are set to '777' currently. The owner of all the files is set the same.

It looks like the image upload function is only half working.

When I upload an image, the original is uploaded to 'catalog_src' with permissions automatically set to '640'

And when I check the corresponding file(s) in the 'catalog' folder the file size is "0" and the permissions are automatically set to '411'

Obviously the images on the live site don't appear.

Pretty strange eh?

Anyone have any ideas?
