CMSMailer won't "Send Test Message"

Can anyone recommend methods to debug CMSMailer ?

Here's my problem:
    I'm using the very latest version of CMSMS ...just downloaded this past Saturday.  I also installed  two modules (Frontend User and iCMSuser).  My problem is that when I try to have an email sent from CMSMailer it just doesn't happen (ie: the email never arrives.  This is done from the CMSMailer Config page which has a "Send Test Message" at the bottom of the page.  I had my webhost look at all the config settings I entered on that page and they say they look okay.

    Now I'm stuck since I have no idea how to check what's happening to the mail after I click the "Send" button.    Any help is appreciated.

Which method are you using to send the mail, SMTP, mail or sendmail?
Have you tried them all?

Try using sendmail, instead.

I changed from smtp to sendmail -making no other change and:

if you are running on a localhost (ie. wampserver), you will also find that it won't work (at least smtp doesn't), as I've seen that your problem is fixed, I just wanted to add this.

I've noticed that smtp always works for me with the default setting but when I add the account info (username and pw) of an actual email address, it no longer works.
