SQL Database Backup Help

Hello,
Just started using CMS made simple and i was wondering if it were possible from the backend of the cms to backup my database - including images, files, etc. I have seen a how to guide on backing up the database - but I didnt understand this. Is there not a simpler way using the backend?

Hello,

I'm not sure I remember well, but I think there is an "archiver" module which is outdated, somewhat deprecated and doesn't work with latest stable CMSms today. I hope I'm wrong.

But although not integrated there still is a somewhat easy and safe way to back up every thing : clear the cache, dump the database within CMSms php files and tar the whole w3 root folder to retrieve at home.

hello. i should have been more clear - i intend to use the backup on a new server. I heard that the sql could be taken from the backend, then all I would have to do is reinstall the cms on another server and then import the database!

There are a few backup modules on the dev forge (I searched for backup on dev.cmsmadesimple.org), but none of them seem up to date and do both the files and database.

Honestly, I would try and do it the old fashioned way if possible...  backup the database using phpmyadmin and download/upload the files.  It's the safest thing to do and you know it's done properly that way.

Just to hear if there anyone else have a good idear about backup. - I personally use "file backup" for the files, and I would love to have a backend database backup utillity. But they all seems outdated? Or am I wrong?

I'm currently using MysqlDump for remote db backup, and it works like a charm.

I have tried making the folder "mysqldump" in my admin folder (ofcouse a diffrent name than admin)  under backups and in the root, and in admin/backups/mysqldump, but none of them works.

I can confirm you that mysqldump saves its backup in directory /admin/backups. Admin dir name is fetch from config.php

I think that error can be caused by your hoster php settings, in particular you should check if any of these function is disabled.

exec, show_source, shell_exec, system, popen, proc_open, proc_nice, ini_restore, passthru,dl

If  these parameters are disabled you can't use mysqldump.

The problem was the path to mysqldump.
I dont know the path, so I have written to my host, so they can answer me.
