Are there any working Syntax Highlighting modules?

Post by unknown »

Greetings,
After several hours of work. I find I'm unable to get syntax highlighting to work in CMSMS.
All of my attempts have been with EditArea.
I followed all the directions that came with it. I tried it in conjunction with TinyMCE, then without TinyMCE,
and only EditArea as both the editor and textarea hightlighter - no joy. I have set it globally, as well as in
the User Options. I have searched the Forums under Syntax Highlighting, resulting in mostly references
to the 2.0 API, or nothing providing clues as to how to get it to work for me in CMSMS-1.2.

Thank you for all your time and condsideration in this matter.

P.S. I have no reason to insist on using EditArea. If there is a different Highlighter, and it works, Cool!
Please let me know.

Thanks again.

P.P.S.
-Browser(s) Gheko (newest) && IE 6
Browsers tried on UNIX, MacOSX, and Windows.

Server
- Apache,PHP4,MySQL4,CMSMS1.2

IMHO there's currently only EditArea available. Works for me ... have you tried to deactivate compression inside modules admin?

cyberman, your prompt replies are always greatly appreciated. :)

Indeed. I tried with, and without compression, in the EditArea's control settings. But, no joy. :(
Pitty, and I can't for the life of me, understand why it won't work.  ???

I have been Googling for another solution. I have found many different offerings. Their demo's
all work in my browser. Unfortunately, they will all require that I come up with some means of incorporating
them into CMSMS. Sigh...

Well, I'll patiently await a possible solution. If I find, or create a working alternative, I'll report back with
the results so that others will be able to use it also.

Thanks again for your thoughtful reply.

@cyberman
Good advice. But yes, Javascript is enabled in all 6 browsers (IE & gheko on the UNIX,Mac, and Win boxen).

Thanks for your reply.

Thank you for your reply cyberman. :)

Good suggestion, but no. I don't receive any error messages in the console, or otherwise.

Thank you again for your response. :)

I already have this problem.
How do you install the Module? Via XML file ou via FTP?
In my case, maybe a server related problem, the module just work properly if I install via FTP.
If you install via XML, try to uninstall it, delete the folder and reinstall via FTP.

This didn't work for him SimonSchaufi. cyberman already suggest it in his first answer.
I think the solution is ftp it to the server.

I tried it two different ways following your suggestion:

I uninstalled & removed it, I downloaded the v.0.22 XML version to the uploads folder.
From the Extensions > Modules menu, I browsed to the uploads file and chose install.
Tried it with both gzip enabled, and disabled. No joy. Uninstalled and removed it.

Downloaded v.021 ZIP file. Placed it into the modules folder. Unpacked it. Went to the Extensions > Modules menu.
Chose install. Tried everything I tried in the v.022 install. Still, no joy. Uninstalled it, removed it.

Looks like something is not quite right with this module. I've even gone so far as to debug the JS source.
No errors, no problems. So, I think it would be great if the author could look a little closer at this. As I
see others are experiencing the same trouble. Even offer ways to help the author find out whats wrong.

Anyway, unless I hear some other suggestions for this module, I'm gonna call this a broken module.

Thanks again for your suggestion. :)

Thanks for the tip. :)

Looks like there were still troubles there as well.

I've been thinking about the geshi solution. I've used it many times with WIKI's and other CMS's.
Never ran into any troubles. But - wanting to take the line of least resistance,  I went the way of
the Module, and chose EditArea. Given that hind sight is 20/20, I now realize I should have
used geshi in the first place. :)

Thanks again for your help. :)

@SimonSchaufi, Thank you very much for all your efforts. :)

I tried the copy of v.0.20 you sent me, but the results the same - no highlighting. Just a plain textarea. :(

I really appreciate your going through all the trouble to assist me. :)

Thanks.
