Blank Page at installation... does not involve moving
Blank Page at installation... does not involve moving
Hello!
I am trying to install CMS Made Simple and I get a blank page when I try to go to the install link. This is not because I have moved to a new server.
I uploaded everything correctly, set permissions, and uploaded a blank config.php file as the Quick Install instructions suggested. That didn't work, so I deleted all the files and tried again. I called the domain server company to see if it was problem with the database and they said it was probably because the config.php file was blank. Thus, I copied to code from a config.php file from another version of CMS Made Simple I had installed on another website and it still didn't work.
Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Is the config file supposed to be blank? If so, then why was the page still blank even when I had an empty config file uploaded? If it's not supposed it be blank, could it be that I have the wrong code installed?
The address to the website is http://www.holistic-fitness.org/install
If it helps at all, the domain is hosted by GoDaddy.com.
Thanks!

Pierre,
1 & 2: The version I installed was 1.1.3. I do not know what version the config.php file is from. It cannot be one too far before this one because I installed it on the other website on July 27th.
3: The tmp file had all the other folders in it - cache, config, templates, templates_c
4: I had a feeling GoDaddy would cause unnecessary problems. But the owner chose it because it was cheap. :/

if you're doing a fresh install, then the config.php file WILL be empty, and should be empty.
You chmodded the config.php and the tmp directory to 777 (recursively)?
and then went to install/install.php
and all of the tables were created?

Re: Blank Page at installation... does not involve moving
I thought I replied to this, but apparently, I didn't press send!
Anyways, calguy, I emptied the config.php file and everything. Also, there is no install.php, but there is an install.css. The version installed is 1.1.3. Should I remove it and try 1.1.4. And like I alluded to earlier, does GoDaddy.com have anything to do with it or is GoDaddy pretty stable and it's an installation error on my side?

if there is no install.php file its a broken upload issue.
download the latest package, check md5sum after downloading
upload
run installation

Re: Blank Page at installation... does not involve moving
I have downloaded Versions 1.1.2, 1.1.3.1, 1.1.4.1, and 1.2. None of them have an install.php file, only install.css.
Re: Blank Page at installation... does not involve moving
sorry, its install/index.php...
Re: Blank Page at installation... does not involve moving
They each have the install/index.php file... which I guess brings me back to the original post:
There is a blank page when I try to go to this file to begin installation. Right now, I have uploaded Version 1.1.3.1. (This is the third upload I've tried.) Should I try Version 1.2?
If the version does not matter, is it because it is hosted by GoDaddy or does that not matter either?

Re: Blank Page at installation... does not involve moving
I also just installed the latest version with install/index.php present and got the a blank page.
I am also hosting my domain to godaddy. I wonder if the files are corrup or the issue is with godaddy?

Re: Blank Page at installation... does not involve moving
Actually, it's not Godadday that is causing this problem. It was my ftp client. Apparently when I upload the files, somehow the uploaded files to godaddy becomes incomplete. I know my ftp client is crappy and I since I have no other access to other ftp client. I also needed to increase the php memory from 8M to 16M.
So what I did, is I used godaddy's ftp interface, only that I had to upload the folders under my CMS root folder, one by one. I also had to pay attention that the ftp doesn't time out.
I hope this works for you. I suggest to re-upload again the entire files into your godaddy's host.
Before installation, check also if you have any warnings...
