meta description tag added to Cataloger item pages???

meta description tag added to Cataloger item pages???

Is there anyway that a custom meta description tag can be added to the cataloger item pages?
(as you can with standard "content pages")
I have added the tag to the source code in a page, submitted the page but on review the metatag has disappeared.
