How many people would want a

Post by Gary Greyling »

e-commerce solution based on or as a plugin to cmsms ?

Also please list the features you would consider most important. I had the most awfull experience with oscommerce and i'm planning on developing this for myself to use as osc is a mess and the other slutions out there is even worse. The clean code (or at least 10 times cleaner than osc) in cms made simple is by far a better way to go. Anyway add you comments here so i can build up a fature list and development plan.

Create design what you want is in oscommerce wery difficult. In her extension - creloaded is easier....but is nothing against creating a design in cmsms! :) But oscommerce contains a lot of good internal functions, modules, extensions(contributions). Exist one modul, for this CMS, "products", but is too small. I thing, creating a modul what will be contains oscommerce functions, output will be smarty tags ( {price}, {price_with_tax}, {small_picture}, ....., {category_name}, {category_description}, {category_image}, ....., {shop_name}, .... for any posibillity in OSC shop. It's not problem with tables OSC a CMSMS in one database.... Or creating all since the beginning. :(
BTW i created page with this 2 systems together. http://www.dartex.sk ...but designer want kill me :D ....keep to the terms of design concept is in OSC dificult. Roman

I know I would want a module to integrate into OSC.  Off the top of my head, I would want this functionality:
  a) Able to extract product details (based on an ID, shop, category, etc) from osc and create a mini catalog in cmsms.
  b) Integration with OSC's registration process so that users can use their same login/passwords to login
  c) Able to click "Add to Cart" to add this item to my OSC cart.
  b) Click on "Checkout" to switch over to OSC to allow for all the shipping stuff, order confirmation, etc.  Maybe with a custom template and an "embed" tag so that it looks like
      it's coming from CMSMS.

I never would have imagined I'd be interested in a CMSMS e-commerce plugin, but I'm 60% done with my client's design and he mentions that he wants to sell products via the site now, too.  So I thought I'd pitch in my support for an e-commerce module.

I don't have much (read: any) experience in setting up e-commerce on the server side, but a mod or port of another design (like the other post about oscommerce suggests) would be best to avoid it from becoming an animal of its own.

You might want to look at Mal's ecommerce to see if it would be a good candidate for intergration into CMSMS.

One advantage it has is that even for fairly sophisticated use it is I believe completely free. You can choose to use functions for which you pay, but I believe that this is not necessary for a surprisingly wide range of applications.

Any further development in the area of an e-commerce shopping cart module?

I still don't think I like the idea of OS-commerce, it's just too bloated.

Has someone found something more petite that could perhaps be integrated and then built on later?

Yeah, I saw but it looks like the cart may have got stuck in a rut and now he meeds some decent programmers to help pull it out. :)

Could be a great project!

I've had enough of this.  Go spam your stupid program somewhere else.

NOTE: This user has been banned.  First time I've ever had to do that.  Oh well...

Oo-rah. :D I remember getting the e-mail notification and waiting for Blazer to load the webpage on my cellphone only to find it was a poorly disguised attempt at real estate spam.  :-\

Hello again guys, my apology for being missing for a while, i'm getting into it again and will be creating the projects, i'm working on an Ticket / Helpdesk system in cmsms currently that will be released here when i have a working version. Then you guys can rip/ strip and modify to hearts content.

I'll tackle the e-com system again after that but the idea is to keep the segments seperate, so store, cart, payment and admin for each. I'll look at db_cart and see if we can help him get it fired up again.

Cheers for now
