page-based permissions

Post by berry »

Hi Everyone.

I would like to start this topic with a great big thank you for everyone who has worked on this CMS, because I really like it's simplicity. I've installed and maintain quite a few installations and my clients really seem to be happy with it.

There's one thing though that keeps me from integrating it even more. There doesn't seem to be a way to set access permissions per page. That's a darn shame, for a lot of my clients are requesting this functionality, hence I have picked more bloated and more difficult CMS's for them. The clients which are not on cmsms often complain about the ease of adding and editing pages and I'm rather sure those complaints would disappear if I were to install cmsms for them, but I can't due to the afore mentioned problem.

So, here's my thought. Support for groups is already implemented, as well as users and group permissions, why can't there be another fieldset in "Edit content" > "Options" like "Access control". There you set access permissions for either a full group (or multiple groups) or per user. That would make my life a hell of a lot easier, even so easy, it'd feel like taking a holiday ;)

Have you made a look to tab "Options"? There you can found a field "Additional Editors".

If you now create a group without any permission but choose members of this group as additional editors I think it should work like you want.

Hi cyberman,

I've tried the solution you provided, but it doesn't do what I want it to do. It's not that I want the users to be able to edit te page, I want them to be able to _view_ the page. That is, normal users (not authenticated) can _not_ see the page, while logged in users can. I'm sorry if I didn't get that point across.

not for editing pages...?
Ok so you need to expand your cmsms with the add on modules FrontEndUsers and CustomContent. This will et you design pages and control that diferent users can see then they are logged in and not logged inn....
