"header_link_to_child" menu – disable active sectionheader?

I'm using cmsmadesimple 1.0.6 "Niihau" and I've created a menu using the "header_link_to_child" code in the documentation and it works fine.

but i don't want the sectionheader of the active section to be a link. Is it possible to disable the link when it has active child pages?

Or if this isn't possible, can i at least change the color?
