Modifying template to float menu

Hello,

I'm running the latest CMSMS version on a debian server.

I'm trying to customize a template to fit my design that was originally done in Fireworks. 

Can anyone advise me on how I might float my menu onto my header.  If you check the link below you can see the menu is in the natural stacking order for the page but I want to float the menu up a bit.  You will notice there is a lot of space between the text on my header and the menu.
