TemplateExternalizer need help, please!

Hi!

I needed external templates and style sheets, so I installed TemplateExternalizer.
Then I went to Layout -> TemplateExternalizer, clicked "developer mode" and left the rest to defaults.
I checked $CMSMSDIR/tmp, but there was no externalizer directory. So I created ./tmp/externalizer and "restarted" the module, but still no files were exported.
Please help!
