[Self Registration Module] entire server halts for a minute

Problem is as follows:
I installed the frontend user management and created a group. (what's up with that properties tag... what am I filling in there anyway, I made it "fill in your e-mail")
Anyway, I installed the Self Registration Module

Left everything default, since there not very much to customise (exept for the e-mail adress where a reg. e-mail should be sent to, obviouslly entered my valid adres there)

When I insert the login somewhere into a page it display's nicely. But when I try and register the entire page (commercial hosting) halts for a minute or 2 and then coninues.

No mail has been sent, but the user has been added...

Am I missing something here? I guess there's something wrong while trying to send the mail (page goes blank).
