My first website: www.vksjsintlieven.be

Post by WebPiet »

Hi y'all,

About 4 months ago, I voluntary agreed to build a website for my daughters girl-scouting group. As a professional product manager in Geographic Information Systems I'm familiar with IT, but I had never made a website before!

After googling information about CMS'es and testing some CMS on www.opensourcecms.com I jumped into the water with CMSMS.

The content of the site was written in a couple of evenings in the default CMSMS templates. But the adapting of the default templates to the site I visually had in my mind took me evenings and evenings and ... evenings. Most of the time was spent learning to know CSS and the module tags parameters of CMSMS while adapting the default templates bit by bit with every new discovered feature or CSS property. I didn't made it easy for myself with this flexible 4 collumn layout.

Now finally the site is ready enough for the official launch. The site will be officially anounced to all the girls of the group and their parents on a party this weekend!

So feel free to visit www.vksjsintlieven.be and evaluate my labour! The only part of the site that's not really finished is the "foto-expo" with the only recently implemented album module. I can't get the Thickbox-with-prev-next template working decently for the moment. Hope to fix this before the weekend! All suggestions welcome!

My thanks go out to all of you at the CMSMS community for your programming labour and your contributions to this forum.
Special thanks for all who answered my own posts. I could resolve most of the problems myself by searching and trial & error. But for some problems I had to ask the forum members for help. I'm very gratefull for your fast and accurate solutions!

Kind regards.

Piet

P.S. My wife is most enthousiast about the finishing of the site ... she wil have me back beside her in the sofa for the evenings  :D

Very nice, unique layout. The girl-scouting troop should be very happy with it.

Piet,

a very very nice site.

One small remark, hovering over a sub-menu with wide text, makes the menu jump, because due to the image that is coming up.

EDIT: one other remark; opening "mail-adressen", makes the page jump and mis-style.

Piet,

If you use lightbox or greybox, you should change the rights on the two folders with the same name under "Album/templates/db". That way you'll get a transparant album shown in a layer on top of your page.

Yes, indeed cyberman, I'm aware the site ain't valid XHTML.

I intent to make it (more) valid XHTML. But for the official release of the site I had to give priority to what the visitors see in their browsers; the layout and content. Now after a couple of quiet months without XHTML and CSS coding, my body and mind are ready for some adjustments to the code.

I hope to announce soon the proper XHTML-validation!

Greets. Piet.

Very inspirational for a newcomer to cmsms! I think it is a great unique site and shows what is possible.
