What can Front End Users be used for?

I have downloaded and played around with FEU module and have not really understood its possibilities and limitations. Can someone give some examples of what neat functions can be achieved with this module? I understand that together with custom content I can hide or change part of the content depending on who is logged in. I also understand that the uploads modul, and feuCalendar can be used with FEU module. From some one who has limited experience this seems to be it. Is there any more that can be done? Is the FEU module primarily for advanced users who develop their own functionalities for logged in users?

What I’m wondering is if it is possible to allow FEU module to allow users to upload articles, user galleries etc.

FEU is a module designed only to handle users, their properties, and user groups.  It handles forgotten passwords, user settings, login and logout.  That's it.

It has an API that makes it's info useable by other modules, like CustomContent and SelfRegistration, but is only one small component of a complete site.

On its own, FEU doesn't do much for a web site. As calguy said, FEU provides all the tools for creating and managing front end users (web site users, not content administrators). That's not much help if you don't have a way to do something with those user accounts. FEU is most useful when coupled with CustomContent or one of the other modules you mentioned. For example, use it with CustomContent to create a password-protected section of your web site.
