CMS Simple and Wordpress

Post by Zappa »

Hi everyone,

I know the basic of SEO strategies but I have a question. Is the SEO in CMS Simple as effective as the SEO implemented in the Wordpress structure? I've noticed that alot of blogs Wordpress are ranking really high in the search engines as general CMS's these days.

Thanks,
Ryan

Short answer, yes, very easily.  Enable Pretty URLs and you're done, so long as you have and add content ;)

Opinated answer:

Content is king.  SEO, is a black art.  IMO, there is no expert in SEO, only snake oil sales people who want to steal $100s or $1000s from naive, technically incompetent business owners.

Have quality content, first priority for site visitors, second priority for search engines.  Add more quality content on a very regular basis, every day or two, add a new page or article.

Have readable, friendly URLs, first priority for site visitors, second priority for search engines.

Have relevant titles, first priority for site visitors, second priority for search engines.

Get the idea, build a site for people and the people will come, search engines will find it and rank it highly.

Then you need to get organic, quality links from high quality websites.  You can't get these yourself, having quality content will grow these.

Those blogs that rank high do so not because for Wordpress, google, yahoo, et al, couldn't care less what technology you use to serve up the site, it's because there are just a ton of blogs using wordpress that have quality, constantly updated content.

Take a look at one of my favorite sites, http://strobist.blogspot.com/ he started it out as a hobby, had very few visitors in the beginning and it quickly grew.  A little over a year later after starting it, he quite his day job and does the blog full time.

BTW, he's not using WordPress, CMSms, or anything like that, just Blogger.  From what I've read on his forums and picked up from talking with him, he spends ZERO time worrying about SEO.

CMSms can do all of this, but only if you add the content ;)
