How can I upload a video or flash flv?

For questions and problems with the CMS core. This board is NOT for any 3rd party modules, addons, PHP scripts or anything NOT distributed with the CMS made simple package itself.

How can I upload a video or flash flv?

Post by sarah_h »

Hi All,

I'm scratching my head on this one! After searching the board I found that there were a couple of modules 'play' and 'flv player' which may do the job but after installing 'flv player' I see lots of errors and I can't understand what/how 'play' is supposed to to or work!! So are there are documents for either other than the installation help and brief help descripts?

I apologise for my obvious frustration on this. But to recap I need a way for the user to upload flv's from the admin and get them to display like a gallery on the front end.

Anyone have any ideas on this? I could really use some help/pointers!

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

I have been working on a local installation of CMSMadeSimple and was trying to put an flv file in a document. I'll tell you what I did to make an flv work but I have no idea how to display them as a gallery. Maybe you'll have to write a gallery template for that.

1. Download Play module, zip file and the xml file. unzip and copy the resultant Play folder in the cmsmadesimple modules folder.  copy the xml file into the modules folder (not inside the Play folder).

2. In the admin mode, got to Modules in the Systems Menu. Below the installed modules you'll see "Install module via xml file". Choose the location of your play xml file and proceed. Click on "Install" in front of the resultant Play module.

3. Now you should see a "Multimedia Player" menu in the "Content" dropdown menu. Click on it and upload your flv files in the uploads folder. In the location box, just type the filename with extension. Use the resultant code with the file id in your documents.

4. As of now the flv plays but the slider doesn't move to let the user know how much of the video is left.

I hope this is of some help. I'll check out the "flv player" module to see if that is any better.

Thanks for this and particularly for the 'play' instructions. I'll have a look into that a bit later and come back here with my findings.
