WYSIWYG help needed...FCKeditor/tinyMCE

Post by Geo »

Hi,

I've updated a client site to black rock (v1.2.3) earlier in the week and it seems to have all gone to plan, except none of the WYSIWYG modules are working.  TinyMCE and widgEditorX doesnt load its toolbar into the content editing window; all i get is the ability to type into a windowed version of the page, i can edit content but i dont have any of the controls visable.  However even the editing of content is a problem because after pressing either apply or submit and receiving the "done" tick when i reload the page i've edited the content is as it was before unchanged.  reloading the page in tinyMCE shows that the changes havent been recorded.

FCKeditorX loads correctly with the tool bar but any editing isnt saved, in exactly the same way as tinyMCE.

Anyone know what might be causing either or both of these problems?  I'm using the most recent stable versions of the WYSIWYG files from the wiki.

The WYSIWGY are selected in both the global and the user preferences so i dont think its that which is causing the issues...

thanks in advance for any help :)

Geo.

Okay a slightly simplified version of events in the hope some kind soul will recognise a symptom:

1. tinyMCE & widgEditorX: neither display their tools (bold, left justify, etc.)

2. FCKeditorX: displays tools (bold, left justify, ect.) but when i make changes to the content and press "apply", the screen says "update complete" however reloading the amended page in another IE window shows that the amendments havent been saved.  I go back to the admin panel and reload the page in FCKeditorX and the changes i made have disappeared.

i therefore have a real problem as the client cant write HTML or CSS and now cant update their own website anymore.  Has anyone got a WYSIWYG working with Blackrock (1.2.3)?  If so could you kindly say which one it is?

can anybody replicate my issues on their website?  Would/could it be a Java issue?  how would i fix it if it was?  any other ideas?

cheers,

Geo.

What version of TinyMCE do you have when you go to Extensions > Modules?

I have a fresh CMSms install and version 2.2.7 of TinyMCE.

What version of CMSms did you upgrade from?  Have you cleared your local browser cache and cookies?

sadly emptying the cache/coookies/temporary files on the local computer had no impact :(

I've switched to the xinha editor and although it has a few bugs (eg. changes arent saved using "apply" you have to hit "submit") it seems to work.  the toolbar loads and the changes can be made.  i'd ideally like to get one of the FCKeditor/tinyMCE WYSIWYG working as they're more stable however this is proving to be a workaround...

hmmm,  Next thing I would try would be removing TinyMCE (or FCKeditor) completely, uninstall, delete their directory from the modules directory, clear cache (site and local browser), then reinstall and see if that gets it working.

hi thanks for the on going support.  i've uninstalled all the other WYSIWYG modules and deleted them using flashfxp from the webserver.  I then cleared the cache on the local machine and also in the admin panel and still no joy :(  i think theres either a change in blackrock which has outdated the WYSIWYG modules (with the exception of xinha) or i have done something funky in the code which is causing the issue - could be start from scratch time?!

I've only ran 1.2.3, it only installs/comes with TinyMCE in the base package.  I've had no problems at all running TinyMCE or FCKeditor.  Though I guess people running MAC have had issues with the current version of the FCKEditorX module.  After a bit of research and trial and error I was able to figure out how to update the FCKEditor that ships with the module to the current version on the FCKEditor main website:

Same thread, more detailed instructions on what to edit.
http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... l#msg91387

I don't know and haven't been around with CMSms long enough to know what kind of changes were made from 0.12.1 to 1.2.3, but that is quite a jump and doesn't surprise me that something is broken.  I'm thinking there may still be an old file or two (or more) still lying around effecting stuff.

Maybe, if you can, try installing a fresh, new copy of 1.2.3 to test, not overwriting your current install, just in a separate place, a new database, etc  Then see if TinyMCE or FCKeditor work.
