I have just uploaded all the files for CMSms (version 1.2.3) on my server, CHMODed the necessary folders, and added a config.php file. but now when i try to go to the url where i put the files to continue the installation, i get this:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I think this happened after i CHMODed the files. after i did that through my FTP, i lost the connection and could no longer connect to my server where i put the files through my ftp. it keeps saying that the username and password are incorrect. but i never changed them!
what went wrong?
UPDATE: so, i've been messing around with the installation on another server and realized that the error comes up right after i change the permission on the config.php file to 666. changing the permission on the other files to 777 doesn't affect it. so i left the config.php file with its original permission and the error doesn't come up. then after installation, it says that i have to change the permission on the config.php file to 444 for security purposes. after doing that the error popped up again! what!? i'm confused.... after the error appears, even though i change the permission of it back to 644 (what it was originally) the error is still there! can someone please explain what is going on??

Re: 403 forbidden error after file upload
Hello,
it seems the hosting context is unreliable.
Does another PHP+MySQL application work there ?

Re: 403 forbidden error after file upload
i haven't tried another application. though i had version 1.0.6 of cmsms running on it before. i installed it perfectly fine with no problems. but i decided to upgrade it to the newest version and i'm now coming up with this error. i did a clean install of the newest version, not an upgrade. so even the database on it is new. i even tried installing it with a different host and everything and still the same error comes up. it works if i don't change the permissions on the config.php file. is it ok if i leave it as 644? or is that too risky?
Re: 403 forbidden error after file upload
You should talk to your hosting provider if this 444 instead of 644 prevents CMSms to work (and your FTP connection gets closed, and you can't reconnect and...). You are the first reporter of such an issue I see. Talking with him can answer your security question too, because it is hosting context dependant.

Re: 403 forbidden error after file upload
so i got in touch with my hosting company and they told me that they ran a fix on my site and now everything is working fine.
so i am guessing it was a problem with the hosting and not me. if anyone else encounters this problem then talk to your hosting people!
