What is the use of the 'Anonymous FTP space' on the project page

Talk about writing modules and plugins for CMS Made Simple, or about specific core functionality. This board is for PHP programmers that are contributing to CMSMS not for site developers

What is the use of the 'Anonymous FTP space' on the project page

In dev.cmsmadesimple.org/projects/[projectname] one can find in the lower left corner a link to an anonymous FTP space. When I try this hyperlink it is not opening a page. How can the project owner open up the webpage/space and make it available?
