Finally getting there...still a few questions

Post by Deron »

Okay...I've posted a lot of problems lately as most of you I'm sure know.  I've just jumped in head first and luckily I've somehow got my site homepage to work with CMSMS...about half way.  I have a few questions still.

First off...here is the link its giving me to view my page in place with CMSMS: www.deronsizemore.com/cmsmadesimple/index.php

1.  How do I add different content sections?  Currently I'm using {content} for all three sections on my site (main left content area, and the two right content areas which are latest and current work) and as you can see the same text is being displayed in all areas cause I'm using the same {content} tag.

2.  Do I need to uplaod every image, file to CMSMS or will it automatically recognize them from my webserver?  I had to uplaod images to get the css to work right (cause I'm using background images in the site.

3.  After CMSMS is completely implimented, how do I get rid of this part of the URL
cmsmadesimple/index.php
which it is automatically being generated.  I don't want to have to give that whole long address to people wanting to visit my site.  Cause if you look at just www.deronsizemore.com you will see its a completely different site (as all of this conent is being pulled straight from my webserver.

1. You have a couple of options for the content. If it is a small amount of info that goes into the blocks on the right you could use HTMLBlobs in your template. Create a HTMLBlob then put {html_blob name="Latest"} in your template where you now have a {content} tag.
If there is al ot of content in each section you may want to use Multiple Content as outlined in this post

2. Not sure what you are asking here. All images have to be on your site to access them in your pages.

3. If you install CMS in the root of www.deronsizemore.com your url will become www.deronsizemore.com. Of course this may cause you to lose what is there now.

4. Use the search (Top Menu) in this forum it is very useful. (I know when you are starting it is even difficult to know what to ask)

Hope this helps Deron.

Greg,

Thanks for the reply!  Helps me out a ton!  Thanks for the link to for the different content sections.  I'll try the seach function from now on.  For the last couple days I've just been going down through every post in each section reading to see if something caught my eye that I needed to do...needless to say its been a long process!

Anyway, as for question 2. I think I know the answer here which you actually answered in question 3.  I didn't install CMSMS into the root of deronsizemore.com.  I just moved the folder named "cmsmadesimple" from my hard drive over to my webserver, hence making me have to upload all the images twice so that they are located in the "cmsmadesimple/images" folder.  If I had just installed it to the root folder I think it would have solved alot of my initial problems.  I'll try that and see what happens.  Thanks again.

OK now I see what you mean in 2. and I think those will go away with an install in the root of your webserver.

Nice looking site, CMSMS will work great for the design!

another message you will find helpful

Sop let me get this straight. I should have the cmsmadesimple folder in the root folder (and this is the folder that contains the folder www.mydomain.co.uk?) ? As it is just now my file structure looks like this root/www.mydomain.co.uk/www/cmsmadesimple. Should this just be root/cmsmadesimple? I realise you've explained it already but I just want to be ceratin before I move the folder. Also, can I safely move the cmsmadesimple folder to the root from where it is just now or will I have to delete and re-upload?
Advice appreciated.

Sure you can move them then do an install. If you have data you need to save, back it up first.

Ok, I tried to move the file by renaming it "../cmsmadesimple" twice but what seems to have happened is, there is now a folder in the root directory but to get to the actual files the path is "cmsmadesimple/cmsmadesimple/cmsmadesimple/" Now I'm confused. It's actually a free online ftp app that I'm using so It's a kind of psudo-UNIX you have to use. It's at http://web2ftp.com. If all else fails I can just re upload the files and go through the install process again when I get home tonight.

OK. I know This isn't really to do with CMSmadesimple but it's bugging the hell out of me. I just tried to select the contents of root/cmsmadesimple/cmsmadesimple/cmsmadesimple/ and move them to root/cmsmadesimple but now they're in "root/cmsmadesimple/cmsmadesimple/cmsmadesimple/cmsmadesimple" !!!!!!!!! It seems to make a folder within the folder I'm trying to get the files out of! Any thoughts? (I'm Graham by the way. I just wasn't logged in when posting there.)

Ok so I erased all mof the files in www.mydomain.co.uk/cmsmadesimple/ and have uploaded them to the root but now there's a problem. How do I get into the files through my browser to install? I can't go through www.mydomain.co.uk as the folder is not in that directory on the server. I'm stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just in case anyone else posts (And receives no reply) I took all of the files our of the cmsmadesimple folder and placed them in my root folder i.e. www.mydomain.co.uk/www/filesgohere.
