SOLVED: Migrated To Server - Site Is Down

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

SOLVED: Migrated To Server - Site Is Down

Post by bcsweb1 »

Thanks to all that have helped...

This POST was the key - if you follow these steps it worked:

http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... 056.0.html

---------------------------------------------

We just migrated to a new server with a working CMS site.

http://awomansworth.org/site/admin

Now we get this error:

ERROR: The CGExtensions module could not be found.

When we go into admin to install this module, which was there before, we get this:

The modules folder is not writable, if you would like to install modules by uploading an XML file you need to make the modules folder have full read/write/execute permissions (chmod 777). Safe mode may also be in effect.

We have checked, the folder is 777 and we are not in Safe Mode...

We can not install the modules becuase the interface is not letting us???

Also - we are not sure if we upgrade or re-install would it loose all our customizations to templates and modules and data?

How do we get this back up and running?

THanks....

An upgrade should not loose any data.  But do backup your database before doing an upgrade.

You don't mention what version of CMSms you're currently using.  I would be sure you're using the most recent version 1.2.3

I'm also attaching the latest version of CGExtensions in zip format so you can just extract it into the modules directory and install it, CMSms doesn't need write access to modules to do that.

oh zip files are not allowed here.  hmmm.  Well I'll try renaming to .zip.jpg, so just download it, remove the .jpg part and unzip into your modules directory.

I hope this helps and works for you.

[EDIT]
Changed file to .zip.jpg -- needs to be a binary format apparently so the server doesn't get confused serving it up or maybe it's on the upload.  Either way it works now.

can you email the file because even after renaming it the computer thinks it is a HTML

Or rename it as a txt or something...

Ah, I should have downloaded and tested.  I emailed it.  I'll try uploading as .txt and see if that works so that the file is here for others if needed.

I'd post links to my site if they would embed the nofollow attribute in them here...

Got your email

I took a look.  I don't have a lot of time to spend on this right now.  I don't see anything out of the ordinary.  I took a look at phpinfo and nothing looks off to me, but I'm far from any sort of expert.  I could have easily missed some simple setting.

I created a directory called temp, set it to 777 and used a little php script to write a file to that directory without any problem.  I was also able to use php to delete that file.

Perhaps something got corrupt in the database when the data was moved over.  Someone more experienced with CMSms is going to have to take a look at this.  Though I can't think of why CMSms would report directories that are set to 777 as unable to write to them.  I looked at your config.php file and it appears the paths are correct.

The current version is 1.2.3 and it looks like you are on 1.2.  I don't know what other fixes have happened, but at the very least there have been security fixes.  You might want to try upgrading, but I don't know if that will fix the database.  I don't know if there are any sanity checks done on the data in the database to check for corruption.

PLEASE wait to upgrade until one of the CMSms support team members can pipe in here.  I don't have enough experience to know what to do if that is the case.

When I try to browse your CMSms site, the pages don't show any content and some show smarty errors.  The admin also complains that it can't write to cache, however, that directory is also set to 777 and there is nothing in the cache.

I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the CGExtension module to no-avail.

I also noticed that CMSms was and is able to write to /tmp/templates_c without any problems.

The more I look at this the more I'm suspecting either a corrupt file or a corrupt database.
