i applied the template "Top simple navigation + left subnavigation + 1 column" to all pages.

but the left sub navigation is not showing

As I can see on this page is template Left simple navigation + 1 column applied ...

Your original site has 2 links in the top of the header and links down the side, are you trying to change how it looks to have child pages under the menu items on the left?...

You use your existing page structure and it will look like it does now, if you want children to appear when the parent is clicked you need to put them under it when edit/make the page, there is a dropdown Parent: where you assign them, then in the menu call...
