Potentially very sill question by a (very) newbie

Help with getting the CMS CORE package up and running. This does not include 3rd party modules, PHP scripts, anything downloaded via module manager or from any external source.

Potentially very sill question by a (very) newbie

Post by Eccles »

Hello there,

I've been asked to produce a website for a classic car club and all though I am a software engineer, I work with embedded systems and have hardly dabbled with website design and creation at all.  I know a little HTML and some CSS, and have managed to produce a prototype of my site longhand - editing the code by hand.  I have found this rather slow and find I'm concentrating on the detail too much (out of necessity) rather than the overall design.  Hence my desire to move over to a tool to help me, coupled with the fact I'd like to offload the regular updates of the site to other club officials once I've done all the clever bits.

My question is, can CMSMS be the only tool I need?  Can I simply tweak a suitable template using a graphical interface and only have to go down into HTML and CSS (etc.) when I need something specific?

Or, do I need to generate the site with some other tool (Nvu or similar perhaps), and then simply import the site into CMSMS?

To sum up, can CMSMS generate the entire site or is it simply a (fantastic) means of adding CMS to an existing one?

Apologies for what is almost certainly a sill question!

I suggest checking out the demo http://opensourcecms.com/index.php?opti ... =452.  But if you find a template you like that doesn't require a lot of tweaking, then the need to get into the HTML and CSS should be pretty small.

But the templates are HTML (and Smarty markup) and CSS so if you want to create on or really dig around in them you'll need to know HTML and CSS.

Once the template is setup, then you just create pages and add/edit content.  if you have more than one template you can have assign different templates to different pages if needed.

Hello,

If you know software engineering (and web hosting), know some HTML and CSS (and KompoZer.net...) and what you are looking for is some more productivity for making a club website, I think you should like CMSms. As said above, try it.

BTW, see the "static pages tutorial" and http://themes.cmsmadesimple.org/ (and the "show off" forum)
Have fun with CMSms
