NMS 2.0 Ready for Testing

Post by calguy1000 »

NewsLetter Made Simple 2.0 (a significant change from NMS 1.x) is now available for controlled testing period.
I.E.  I am looking for people with significant CMS Made Simple Experience, and people with experience sending bulk emails, and managing mailing lists to test this package.

NMS 2.0 is a significant improvement over the 1.x versions, and therefore all backwards compatibility has been broken.  You will not be able to upgrade to NMS 2.0 from previous releases.

Features:

    * Allows for public (users can subscribe and unsubscribe at will) and private (admins maintained) lists
    * Allows for email confirmation of subscription and unsubscribe activities
    * Allows for disabling certain users
    * Import and export of users
    * Completely template driven
    * Allows displaying archived messages in the frontend
    * Complete template driven messaging system
    * Messages can be stored and re-used
    * Handles multi-part (text+html) messages.
    * Allows for embedding images into emails
    * Allows attaching files to emails
    * Handles bounces
    * Supports pretty urls
    * Lots more

So.... if you're interested in testing this module (and agree not to send the module to other users) message me, and I will give you details to download the file.

Thanks.

I had a look at the svn version a couple of weeks ago. It was looking nice.

I will be happy to give it a whirl.

I am testing this now. Is there any way to set a template or page where all the links like unsubscribe go to etc?

I just want a plain page to handle all the newsletter goings on.

Each message can have a 'return page' that all of the links will use (I think).

Some info about todays test:

(09:55:52)  calguy1000:  Okay, 10,500 emails sent in 2377 seconds (approximately 40 minutes).
(09:56:41)  calguy1000:  that's 0.22 seconds per email... and considering that there's 100ms gap between each email.... that's 0.12 seconds per email.
(10:01:58)  calguy1000:  I now say NMS works.
(10:12:17)  calguy1000:  oh, btw, each email was about 281,000 bytes.

All emails sent successfully (the PHP worked fine.... on a hosted server).  When I checked the inbox of the recipient there were some 8200 messages in there, but it had problems I think I filled it up.  the largest userid I could see was 8266 out of 10,500 so... and all smaller tests worked properly, so I just bet that this account is full and can't receive any more emails.

The test email contained about 9 images (all embedded), had a Text and an HTML portion for a total size in excess of 281,000 bytes.

oh, and I forgot to mention.... I added a 10 second delay in between each 'batch' of 500 emails.... so there's 21*10 = 210 seconds off of that total for an even smaller time 'per message'.

Okay, I haven't received any email addresses yet, in PM or in email..... does nobody want to (or have the time to) test this thing?

When creating a message, there is a 'return page' pulldown.

cb2004... currently no... all of those links link back to the originating page.

so the solution would be to put all of your {NMS} calls on the same page.

Is this a feature that could be added in the future? For example in the message templates could we have something like {unsubscribe pageid=20} or something along those lines?

By the way I didnt realise how many mods you look after until I read one of your posts. Your an awesome contributor.

Yeah, it could be done in the future.... other modules do something like this... but at the moment I'm just trying to get the module 'out'.

BTW.... I'll be contacting selected contributors today and providing links to the XML files needed to test NMS 2.0
