[SOLVED] Site was working now 404 on index.php, but admin still works...

Showing my wife how to add content and, suddenly I get:

404 Page Not Found for index.php - this has been working fine for a week or so.

I don't understand why.

I can still get to the admin pages on our site, and I can edit content, but my index.php continues to get a 404.  I logged into the site and the permissions don't seem to have changed on index.php and its still there, what could be going on here ?  My hosting company is bluehost is this something they could be doing ?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I was just typing a response with MySQL, PHP version numbers etc etc, I am using CMSMS 1.2, and I went back to the admin pages which I could still get to and I happened to notice that the "Home" content page was set as Default, but was not marked Active.  I am not sure how that happened, if I can re-create that scenario I will repost the steps I took to get there, but anyway marking it active fixed the problem.

So I understand now how I got here.  I was logged on as a user in the Editor group.  Every time I edit a page, the page reverts to not Active.  Is this intended behaviour ? It seems a little odd, I can understand if the page isn't published, but this makes the page inactive, hence leading to my 404 error.

If this is just my user error, or I need to RTFM, please direct me to where this is doc'd.  Alternatively if this is possibly a bug, please direct me how to increase trace/logging and I'll reproduce and send logs etc.
