Why not fixed in FAQ the upload problem and it's solution ?

Post by percusionista »

Hi

I've cheking in forum to solve what seems a very frequent problem
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of xxxxx bytes exhausted (tried to allocate yyyyyyyy  bytes) in ...
I'm looking for a simple or at least step to step ( for newbies) solution to this problem ( I'm not an advanced user of dynamic webs or CMS).

I've got a lot of possibilities and some of them do not works for me, like:

http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/topic,11427.msg57216.html#msg57216

and others are like a never ending stories, at least to me:

http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/topic,8505.0.html

believe me after reading 3 pages with all kind of solutions, I'm even more confused.

What I say is:

If it is a FAQ why not include the answer or solution in a "SIMPLE" way in that section. Or the last word of this CMS will lost many of it's meaning.

For me is very important if I can't upload some modules, for example.

I hope someone can help me (hep us) in a simple and effective way.

Thank you

Hi!

May I qoute Calguy:
Unfortunately, there's no fast, easy, and good solution to uploading and downloading large files.
It all depends on server setup - so it is more or less up to you. If you have a server of your own, just configure it as you like, and you are done. If you are on a shared server, ask your hosting company. If they can't provide you with your needs, either upgrade your account or change company.

As this is NOT a CMSMS problem, why should the CMSMS team provide a solution (besides the fact that they simply can't)?

Cheers,
Alex

Hi Calguy

thank you for your answer, as I told you I´m newby with that staff.

In that way would be nice a fixed FAQ like this:
If you have this problem
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of xxxxx bytes exhausted (tried to allocate yyyyyyyy  bytes) in ...
This is not a CMSMS problem anyway, but as it it is avery common quetion, those are the possibilities:

- Your Own server
:- this solution (whenever)
                          - this other: (link to forum post or whenever

- Shared server: Ask hosting company
Believe me a FAQ like this would help me a lot, it would save me a lot of time looking for the solution.
You gave me it now, thanks for that.

I love this CMS, adn that´s why I try to make a contribution, to make more usefull to newby users, other way I should ask only for my problem.

Thank you again

increase your php memory_limit

now HOW exactly you do that DOES depend on your host and server setup;
so ask your hosting provider how you can increase your php memory_limit

for SERVER issues, yes.. go to your hosting provider for help

if you have your own box, then YOU should already know how to do things like this, be willing to dive head-first into docs and config files if you don't.. or have hired someone who does and is. ;)  setting up and administering a live production internet server is NOT something someone without the requisite skills and knowledge should be doing.

it is not the project's job to make running a server 'simple'.. it is all about making managing the web site on the server 'simple'...

eternity (n); 1. infinite time, 2. a seemingly long or endless time, 3. the length of time it takes a frozen pizza to cook when you're starving.
4,930,000,000 (n); 1. a very large number, 2. the approximate world population in 1986 when Microsoft Corp issued its IPO. 3. Microsoft's net profit (USD) for the quarter (3 months) ending 31 March 2007.

And.... this is not a CMS specific issue, so therefore should not go in the FAQ.  google is your friend.  Use it.
