Modules install error

Post by shanez »

I just recently install CMS Made Simple and am getting the error below.  I am totally new to this CMS stuff and don't know a lot about about computer stuff like this in general.

"The modules folder is not writable, if you would like to install modules by uploading an XML file you need to make the modules folder have full read/write/execute permissions (chmod 777). Safe mode may also be in effect."

Uploads and Modules folders are set to 777.

It says safe_mode is off if I look in Php config.

CMS Made Simple 1.2 "Barbados"
Apache version 1.3.37 (Unix)
PHP version 4.4.4
Operating system Linux

Thanks

Hello Shane,

who is your hosting provider ?
What makes you think the "modules" folder is 777 chmoded ? (can you issue ls -al ?)
What is "Php config" that makes you think PHP safe mode is off ?

How do you get the error message ? What documentation/procedure have you followed, what actions have you made so far ?
Have you seen some warnings before ?

I just installed it.  And saw that warning on the modules screen.  I just wanted to install some of the extra modules.

I don't know who the true hosting providor is.  A local place set it up the basic hosting for us.

I use cpanel to look at and change most things.  There is an option to look at the server PHP Configuration.  In that listing I see

"Language Options safe_mode Off"

If I look at the permissions for the modules folder in the cpanel fiel manager it says "modules 4 KB httpd/unix-directory 0777"

Can you look at the site with an FTP client to check the folder permissions?...

"drwxrwxrwx  12 userdb userdb    4096 Nov 12 23:55 modules"

Does that look right?

Is there some way to manually install modules?
