FCKEditor in CMSMS after version 1.1

Post by jd »

Hi,

I just the following question for I'm curious. I know that since 1.1 the default WYSIWYG editor will be TinyMCE.
But what will happen to the integration of the FCKEditor in the future?

Personally I like FCKEditor better than TinyMCE.

And also, I'm curious why the dev team decided to switch to TinyMCE.

Best,
Jd

I'd also like to know a bit more about the decision to use TinyMCE instead of fckeditor X.

There are some reasons for:

- there was a user poll
- TinyMCE was the default editor till version 0.10
- it's a lot faster in cause of gzip compression for extensions
- it's (IMHO) easier to handle
- has shorter support/release times (TinyMCE, not the module)

Let me add that it takes only a few minutes to install and activate FCK ...

Thanks for the information.

I have a couple other questions/concerns.

Security
Is there any known reason to avoid FCKeditorX because of known security concerns?

Functionality
It seems that for me, FCKeditorX has certain features that are preferable to the way I work which is why up to now I preferred using FCKeditorX. But with CMSMS 1.2 I am having all sorts of permissions issues when uploading files now that did not exist before. I've got a couple threads going on those issues. NOt sure where the problem lies but several other people have also joined in my thread and said they're seeing the same thing.

Due to so many upgrades and so much time that has elapsed, I don't even really recall when I switched to FCKeditorX or whether I "switched" at all. Since it used to be the default editor, it must have continued to be the default through my upgrades even though CMSMS switched to TinyMCE at some point. But I see that the version I have been using is FCKeditor 1.0.5, yet I cannot find this version in the Forge. All that is in the Forge is 1.0.3. So where did this 1.0.5 version come from or why isn't it available in the Forge?

And when I go to FCKeditor.net I see a version 2.5beta and a 2.4.3 stable version, while FCKeditorX is 1.0.5... why is this? Is the "X" version customized for CMSMS by somebody? Why is it still in the 1.0.x version when FCKeditor is up to 2.5beta?

So many questions...

No.

Not sure if you know it - TinyMCE uses FCKs SimpleBrowser for uploading ...

As a main module of CMSms it comes only with last 1.0.x ...
And when I go to FCKeditor.net I see a version 2.5beta and a 2.4.3 stable version, while FCKeditorX is 1.0.5... why is this?
You cannot compare FCKEditor module number and FCK editor number :).

If I'm right FCKx 1.0.5 based on FCK editor 2.3

You can try if current FCK editor will work with FCK module. You have only to change folder FCKeditor inside FCKeditorX module folder ...
