new to CMS & Need help with login error

Greetings,

I just took over ownership for our civic club website vis CMS and am having trouble logging in.
I logged in last week with the admin user name and password and now I get a message that they are both not valid.
Problem is the website is down & displays the message http 404 error & no one has made any changes to it.
Any help and/or advice is much appreciated,

has the host changed something?

any reason to believe that the previous admin would want to do harm to the site?

anything in the server logs?

Yes, I have just been informed that our account was transfered to
a new vendor. (this may be the issue) and I have email them my concern.

No, the previous admin is still invloved in the transition?

I will inform the previous admin about the server logs, since I have never
interacted with them.
