Gallery2 Integration

Post by Chad »

Hi,

I put a simple tag for Gallery2 integration in the wiki under user defined plugins. If you want a full featured gallery, it's simple and ready to go. The harder part is dealing with theming, I had to hack g2 a bit so that I could use a different theme when embedded vs when standalone, so that the website has a simple UI but you can still go to the full version when needed.

Preview is at http://www.photosbycarroll.com/gallery/, but that's a live sight so please don't purchase anything unless you want it. Download it in the wiki.

Whoops, that was the full gallery install. The embedded version is at: http://www.photosbycarroll.com/index.php?page=Gallery

I think you meant to post: http://www.photosbycarroll.com/index.php?page=Gallery (edit: Nevermind)

But, anyway, that's is REALLY cool.  I've been watching Gallery2 for awhile now and have noticed how well it's implemented for integration with other things.  This is more than I imagined though...

Very nice!

Well, there's a fair bit of custom work there :) Took me 5 minutes to do the simple little cms tag, and about 3 hours to hack gallery to get what you see... By default all the plugin will do is insert the gallery. The custom theming that gives the embedded version a nice simple interface while keeping the backend fully functional, that was a fair bit of work...

Just today I saw that 'Gallery2' has been officially released (news) and I was wondering if this still works with the plugin you have created?

Furthermore I would like to know (as I did never worked with Gallery2) how you can best integrate it in a website? I woul like to use it more or less as followed:

1. Main start page:

Code: Select all

+------------------------------+
|           Header             |
|                              |
+------------------+-----------+
|                  |           |
|   Main Content   |  Sidebar  |
|                  |           |
|                  | Album     |
|                  | +---+---+ |
|                  | | 1 | 2 | |
|                  | +---+---+ |
|                  | | 3 | 4 | |
|                  | +---+---+ |
+------------------+-----------+
On the main page I would like to show e.g. the latest 4 albums in the sidebar. More or less how 456bereastreet is showing their music recommendations in the sidebar...

2. Startpage of album:

Code: Select all

+------------------------------+
|           Header             |
|                              |
+------------------+-----------+
|                  |           |
|   Main Content   |  Sidebar  |
|                  |           |
| Photo Album      |           |
|                  |           |
| +---+---+---+    |           |
| | 1 | 2 | 3 |    |           |
| +---+---+---+    |           |
| | 4 | 5 | 6 |    |           |
| +---+---+---+    |           |
|                  |           |
+------------------+-----------+
The startpage of the album can be shown in the main content section, just as is beign done on the example website (of Carroll).

Is is possible to customize the number of columns shown for the album? Wouldn't it be better if a module will be created for this specific gallery? Just some thought where I hope someone else can provide me some information on...

Hi,

I had a problem using the function.gallery2.php. It has an error on line 39, there shouldn't be the bracket. It also seems that on line 37, it should be showSidebarBlocks for the latest version of Gallery2. Hope this helps in case it's not working for others. Sorry, I don't know how to/if I can update the file in the wiki, perhaps someone would like to look into it.

Thanks anyway, its a good plugin :)

Is there no way of using Gallery2 with safe mode turned on? My ISP will under no circumstances turn safe mode off for my account and other ISP's I've heard with say the same thing, that they never disable safe mode because of security... Because I've been looking for a good gallery to use with CMS Made Simple and Gallery2 seems to be what I've been looking for...

Gallery2 Login

Post by Bill Jensen »

When I do the integration, I lose the login functionality in Gallery2. I've had problems with cookies before with Gallery, so I cleared them, but no luck.

Is there a secret to making the gallery login work?

The site is at www.jensensweb.com

So how do I use this plugin?  I've got Gallery2 installed and running (http://t516.org/gallery) and I have the plugin installed and it is listed on my admin page.

Do I need a custom page with a certian tag?  I try the url http://t516.org/index.php?page=Gallery and I get errors.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

after adjusting the paths and URL in function.gallery2.php (and removing the stray bracket) the thumbnails show, but when I click on one I get:

Warning: Smarty error: unable to read resource: "db:Gallery" in /www/htdocs/w0059d99/cms/lib/smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1088

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Thanx in advance!
