Hi!
This a re-posting of a question from the swedish subforum - CalGuy jumped in and asked if I could translate the topic, which I did.I guess it´s an old question but I would like to get some help since I can´t find info which directy helps me solve this...
Basically, I have a lot of trouble adding some modules - FrontEnd User and FCKEditorX (Custom Contents installs fine I guess). After installing FEU I get an error message but the module gets listed under Installed modules. But the new menu entry in the admin menu Users & groups looks like this: --Add Me - module:FrontEndUsers string: friendlyname--. Choosing this entry leads to a selection of similar lines, so I guess that the module has not been allowed to integrate with the menu.
So, I have now checked with the web host and they use PHP Safe Mode. Period, apparently, they do not seem interested in disabeling this for my domain...
I need to create a members area later on for the website, but if I can´t install modules (choosing another webhost is right now not an option) then I´m in deep trouble. So, is there a way around this? The problem appears both when using the Module Manager as well as when uploading XML-files.
I run CMSMS 1.1.2 and the "latest" (2007-09-25) version of the modules. The webhost runs php5/mysql.
Thanx!
/hans

Re: Can´t install FrontEndUser
Don't use the XML installation, use the (g)zipped version instead. Just unzip the files locally, then FTP the directory to the modules directory of your installation. The new module will appear in the list of modules and you can install it from there.

I found your post when looking for an answer to a similar problem with " Album"
I unzipped the tar file to an directory called album and then ftp'd this into the modules directory on the server but it does not appear in the list of available modules. Is there anything else I need to do ? I am stuck in PHP Safe Mode

Re: Can´t install FrontEndUser
I guess make sure you've unzipped it to the correct path - make sure it's "*yourcmsfolder*/modules/album/*files are right here!*", not, "*yourcmsfolder*/modules/album/album/album/*files are all the way in here!*" or similar. Unzipping folders into already-created folder can usually end up like that.say42 wrote: Nullig

Re: Can´t install FrontEndUser
Thanks for the reply
The folder modules on the server contains a folder called album which contains the 5 subfolders and approx 32 other files, all of these ftp'd from a local hardisk where I'd unzipped the original file.
I have a similar problem with Form Manager so guess it its a problem with either my understanding of how this works or my host (online.net)
Just so as to be clear, all I have done is to create the directory containing the contents of the tar file, I then look in Extensions/Modules hoping to find some sign of Album but w/o success.
Steve
PS I am also in a discussion on the French forum re the vagaries of the hosting provider I am using, forcing the use of PHP5 has moved things along slightly

Re: Can´t install FrontEndUser
Confession
I made 2 stupid typos in non respecting the case for the directory names, once I changed them, the modules appeared and I was able to install them
Steve
PS Might be worth mentioning in the wiki somewhere if it isn't there already, Linux only sees what is typed, not what was meant !
