Customizing horizontal menu

OK guys, i have a problem. I am working with default template for horizontal CSS menu (cssmenu.tpl)
What i want to do is to customize this template to show pictures instead of links in first level of menu

So, if $node->menutext == 'something' i wish that instead Something it displays


How can i do that? Thanx!
