Adding content blocks to news module?

Hi there
I'd like to be able to add 2 new content blocks to the news module for my client's editors to be able to insert 2 different sized images, rather than insert them into the summary or detail blocks and have to mess around with alignment. I've checked the patches, but there doesn't seem to be one. Has anyone out there managed to do this - my php isn't up to scratch unfortunately?

I found the template share page (great idea) - but no files have been released yet.
