Whilst doing some searching on a non related topic (you've gotta love the web you can find anything when you're not looking for it) I found this site:

It seems to list alot of smarty plugins for various purposes. alot of these seem like they might be useful at one point or another with CMS and you may want to try them ON YOUR DEVELOPMENT SITES by uploading the plugin into the lib/smarty/plugins directory and following their instructions.
