The ImageManager of CMSMS is really nice.
My suggestion would be to make a plugin version of it to use it as a gallery.
You could simply navigate trough the folders and open the images in the active window or in a new one.
The Thumbnails were also auto generated if they doesn't already exist.
So ImageManager and "Image Manager Gallery" work side by side using the same function and same thumbnail files.
Except the admin permissions (Edit/Delete) everything would be the same...

there already is an absolute topnotch derivate of the CMSMS-used imagemanager coded by Per Soderlind as a Wordpress plugin:

I haven't so far come across any module as versatile, as adaptable and as easy to use (both for knowledgable users and laypeople).
While I am no coder, I am pretty sure it can't be that difficult to adapt it to CMSMS, however interest here among the other users was practically nil.

Thanks for the link!
The stand alone version helped me alot.
I already could manage it to run it with CMSMS. The images in the main upload folder were already shown, but I have some troubles with subfolders...
Let's see how the german support is able to help me

I just need to assign a parameter which let's the plugin know which folder should be displayed.

did you manage to run Soderlind's Imagemanager with CMSMS? If yes, I'd like to be in on this. I desperately need it for clients.
I'm sorry to say that, but the WYSIWYG-editor and the Imagemanager coming with CMSMS are about as horrid and bad, as CMSMS is excellent else. I cannot for the life of me understand, why so far nothing has been done to replace this crappy stuff. There are many excellent ones out there, all OS, so all can be used freely. The way code is mangled when anyone accessing CMSMS with it, is really extraordinarily disgusting. Not even such stuff as Word or Frontpage mangles code that badly.
