WYSIWYG Editor Not Working

Post by Everlongdrummer »

Hi Guys,

I just installed the latest version of TinyMCE into the modules folder, and having a few problems.

First of all, the wysiwyg editor for editing pages isnt operating anymore (just code) so I went to User Preferences to select the wysiwyg editor to use and the dropdown list was empty. Before I installed the new version of TinyMCE, the old wysiswyg editor worked fine - I assume this could have been an older version of TinyMCE.

I set the admin group permissions to be able to modify TinyMCE's basic settings but this didn't do anything.

Just wondering if theres' and easy solution to this. I tried to set the TinyMCE folder permissions to 777 but it simply reverts back to 0600.

I just reverted back to the old version of tiny and it works fine.

Could still be a problem if I wanted to install a different wysiwyg editor. :(

Greetings,
Well, some things are NOT so "simple". ;)
As it turns out, when you install CMSMS, TinyMCE is installed and active.
But if you should choose to install and activate a different editor later. You
will suddenly become confused. It seems that even though you are the Admin
and you have changed the WYSIWYG setting under Global Settings, and even though
you have also deactivated/uninstalled your previous choice of editor. It is
not enough
. You must also goto User Preferences (even though you are the
Admin) and ALSO choose your NEW choice of editors there. Otherwise,
you will not see a WYSIWYG when you goto any of your pages to edit them. You
will only see raw code (HTML). This is not intuitive. Why? Because after installing
CMSMS, you have TinyMCE active by default. You can turn it off in the global settings
secion, then turn it back on. In both cases you will not see it, or see it respectively.
You are never required to ever go to the User Preferences section to enable/disable
it, or change it. This only becomes necessary after adding a different
editor.

No "sour grapes". Just thought it was worth mentioning. Especially, given that there
are many other requests for an answer to this situation.

Best wishes.

Hi,
well, I just moved the site on another server... installed Mambo and all worked well, then imported the old database and the WYSIWYG editor doesn't show when I want to edit my news...

Thought I had to deactivate and reactivate MostlyCe but didn't work.

I read your answer and wanted to try it, but... I must admit I work with many CMS's but sometimes Mambo looks a bit cryptic to me, I simply don't find those User Preferences... (in the user management there's no reference to the editor...)

Can you help me?
