Hi there

I am using the standard pages section that came with cmsms 1.1.2 to add text to my pages.

On my home page if i press enter when filling in text it only goes to the next line, but all other pages i create it goes down 2 lines. why is this?

Both home page and the other are using the same template

It's probably the default for the ENTER. It could give a -tag or a -tag, so next line or next paragraph. If you go to "Extensions -> TinyMCE -> Settings", there is a "new-line style". That one is what ENTER does, SHIFT-ENTER gives the other one.
