Help. A complete novice

Well... What can I say 
I've installed CMSMS, read the intro stuff and yet I'm still none the wiser 
I can put together websites generally so I thought I'd give a cms a try, chose this one because it appealed to me also as it says "CMS made simple" Seems like I must be the simple one as I dont know where to start 
Can someone point me in the right direction please?
